Catch Some Wide Eye

A Closed Door

he is gone
and nothing can quite wash out
the taste in my mouth
of life gone far too soon.
his voice repeats in my mind
flashes of movement, smiles
his name is wedged into my existence
taking over everything i see, touch
but it’s too unreal
for him to be gone forever.
i walk towards the door,
pull up a chair and wait.
i know if i sit here long enough
he will come bursting through
as if nothing had happened,
droplets of rain hanging from his face.

as i keep vigil,
shadows climb the empty walls.
the door remains unopened.
