Titles are Overrated
how long have i stared at that angel-
a headless thing on a pedestal
my stone john the baptist
riding in the birdbath with his double chin
he’s my little garden paperweight
in this over-processed world
peeking just above the peonies
screaming of the end of time.
[Written for Thursday Poet’s Rally]
nicely written. Keep writing!
sharp, eloquent words.
Happy Rally.

I have enjoyed reading this poem. I can see the image, a perfect capture.
“my stone john the baptist”
great line…
Midst the flowers and bird bath,
the head that inspired the wrath,
of the queen who found a way,
To truly rule her world for a day,
She ordered the dance to stir a king,
So she could order just anything,
When the dance was over she said,
“Do what you promised. Off with his head!”
Just love the scene you’ve created with these lines…very vivid.
good one! nicely done. i imagined the scene along the lines.

Call it Screaming Angel, for the words pierced my eardrums with a startling calmness.

Ah, I love the imagery in this! Your description of the statue and your admiration of it remind me of what it’s like to be lost in thought in the garden. π
