Catch Some Wide Eye

For Sean

some days i think about you
laid back, arms stretched
like there isn’t a care in the world
your face blank
as bombshells carry away children
your heart still
as we fight their vacant wars
but the thought is a shadow
a lie of the cave
when blinding truth dawns
on the eyes of my soul
that you are not listless
lying there with that look
you are not unfeeling
stretched out in the comfort of man
you are dead
stiffened into repose
and boxed away like a precious gift
unable to tell right from wrong
or anything anymore
