End of the Month


a shaft of sunlight
filters through creme-colored slats by the window
the blinds never line up anymore
something about the strings jumbled up
after too many years of being ripped back and forth
between open and closed, slack and taut
but that one bit of sunlight squeezed through
and peered over his shoulder at the ink on the page
the scuffled envelope, open letter
glyphics decipherable only by the human mind
and his mind was jumbled up
