Catch Some Wide Eye

That Fateful Moment

it’s like
standing on the edge of a bottomless void
in the twilight hours
when the sun has slipped below the surface
of the dark, firm earth
and the stars start their hollow,
screeching scrape
across the whitish blue sky
and, with the faintest edge of wind
that ripples through your hair like a ghost,
you softly close your eyes
slowly leaning back,
back into the void
and just as the world tips and tumbles
far enough from your grasp,
only one milisecond too late
someone calls your name
