Love’s Lullaby

finding my dead rhythm to set it in the grave
sometimes we awake to love, and sometimes we abstain
he took my heart out with him; i hope it will behave
sometimes we awake to love, and sometimes we refrain
in a field of withered roses, maybe we all look the same

Pishaw

one more
vagrant emotion
lost on your world, ditch
the pearl, stitch
the devotion
gotta scratch that one itch
take it to your only bit
by bit,
the bettin’ gets better
when you live a dime a dozen
to the heat of the letter
when the fire’s lit
burn, baby, bit
by bit
dirt poor
sweating out bullets
and catching the nooses
on blood slick cameos
[with leather] contusions
tied to fit
mouth on the bit
by bit
dirt poor
one more
vagrant emotion

Lover Be Gone

part for the course
when you’re breaking that horse
in you dream of divorce
and then steadily blink
away two thousand years
of the crying, the sighing
the screaming and fears
and it’s less than you think
but it’s more than he hears
when it’s part of the course
and it stings like a curse
but you know you’ve had worse
and there isn’t a church
that can heal all this aching
the cold of heart breaking
but you know you’ve had worse
and it’s less than you think
when you’re breaking that horse
it’s just part for the course.

Say My Name

i won’t fall waste
to your slack pace
did i fail to mention
once i grab your attention
how i never fell behind
in a beat or a rhyme
and half of the time
i run round you blind
cause i’ve got the stuff
man, strong and tough
things that you been dreamin’ of
things busting full of love
and you can’t even dream this up
how i go slicin’ the horizon
with a tongue like ice ‘n then
heat it up, whip it back and treat it up
cause i am a winner
a maximum sinner
who never quit the game
that’s why you know my name

Mousy Little Villanelle

soft, soft is the bed beneath our feet
brought by the large, red hand of fear
the sky pours down the grain we eat

we run in circles just to meet
the dreams that tickle in our ear
soft, soft is the bed beneath our feet

familiar is the path we beat
behind a glass that’s always clear
the sky pours down the grain we eat

the hand invades, but death we cheat:
a danger that’s unsettling near
soft, soft is the bed beneath our feet

small are the pellets that we excrete
when we gallop away like tiny deer
the sky pours down the grain we eat

but still, we keep exceedingly neat
and are more shrewd than we appear
soft, soft is the bed beneath our feat
the sky pours down the grain we eat

Ipod Triolet

As I turned up my Ipod and sauntered down the street,
the looks I drew were none too few as I broke into dance.
I’m sure some of the ladies wished I’d quit and have a seat,
as I turned up my Ipod and sauntered down the street.
But my toes were so magnetic as my feet rocked to the beat;
a crowd emerged from sidewalk grooves to better have a glance
as I turned up my Ipod and sauntered down the street.
The looks I drew were none too few as I broke into dance.

Public Dumping

there once was a tater
who wasn’t quite a tot
she thought she wanted to have him
then decided she’d rather not

Downward Spiral

i could not grieve any longer
so i chose to kiss the sun
he poured his blessings in my lap
before the dance was done

i could not love any longer
so i pulled my heart away
and silenced that infernal tap
from day to draining day

i could not live any longer
so i chose to kiss the grave
and hope to keep my heart in sleep
for so my soul to save

Good morning, sunshine. [You only get one lifetime.]

Eye death

i’m every bit the fool as you-
heart wide, strong stride-
the crust of trust still in my eyes-
don’t look, just ride-
when all their words just seem so true
no matter what you think to do,
it’s hard to brace for life’s surprise

i’m every bit the fool as you,
no matter what i think to do
the rust of trust still feeds me lies
and places teardrops in my eyes-
head drop, heart pop-
time for me to close up shop
sometimes loneliness is wise
to clear the past out of your eyes

Market Sparrow, Leap the Narrow

Hipster PDA, sync cable, and stylus, a tighter...

tap dancing in the trenches of a thought
ideas get sold and ideas get bought
but who knows which one is the top of the lot
when ideas get sold and ideas get- bought
but we mad dash the fashion
and label the passion
just stuffin’ and stashin’
the verbal whiplashin’
and who knows what tips when it all hits the top
your idea will rip; your idea will pop
it will drown in the market until it gets caught
in the rain tap dancing in the trenches of thought
